The prosecution in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon handed in their conclusions to the judge. The conclusions probably include indictements of Hezbollah members in the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
Daniel Bellemare handed the papers today to pre-trial judge Daniel Fransen, but an official statement will be released tomorrow, January 18th.
His son, Saad Hariri, is the current prime minister. As Saad Hariri was and still refuses to withdraw Lebanon from its participation in the STL, there is fear that Hezbollah will take over Lebanon.
This could escalate and involve other countries, especially Israel. Middle East violence will trigger risk aversion, aiding the Japanese yen, US dollar and Swiss franc. Higher oil prices could also push the Canadian dollar higher, but this will be countered by the strength of the greenback.
