Later today, Lael Brainard, one of the policymakers at the Federal Reserve, is expected to make remarks. As a result of speculation over what he might say, the US dollar is trading mixed today.
Greenback is mixed against its major counterparts today, thanks in large part to traders who are in wait and see mode. Federal Reserve policymaker Lael Brainard is expected to make a speech today, just before the blackout period imposed on policymakers ahead of the next FOMC meeting, set for September 20 and 21.
Speculation about when the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates, and the impact economic data is likely to have on the decision, is rife right now. As a result, the US dollar is having trouble finding a direction today. The greenback is up against the Canadian dollar and euro, but falling against the UK pound and the Japanese yen.
Until Forex traders hear Brainard’s speech, there isn’t likely to be huge movement.
